INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY: CYBERSECURITY
Spanish Companies GMV and LuxQuanta Join Forces to Strengthen Europe’ s Quantum-Safe Future
GMV and LuxQuanta are developing a Spanish-engineered, European-aligned solution to strengthen post-quantum communications and digital sovereignty.
GMV, a Spanish leader in cybersecurity, space and defence, and LuxQuanta, the Spanish pioneer and world leader in quantum key distribution( QKD) technologies, have established a strategic alliance to accelerate the real-world deployment of QKD technologies and strengthen Europe’ s sovereignty in quantum-safe communications.
This collaboration is said to position Spain at the forefront of Europe’ s quantum-secure communication revolution, combining GMV’ s proven Key Management System( KMS) and decades of cybersecurity experience with LuxQuanta’ s field-proven Continuous-Variable QKD solutions.
For QKD networks to emerge globally, progress towards commercial, scalable and long-range quantum communication depends on synergy between terrestrial fibre networks and the space segment. The terrestrial layer enables secure quantum key exchanges across national and metropolitan infrastructures, forming the backbone of Europe’ s quantum communication ecosystem. In parallel, the satellite segment extends quantumsafe communications beyond ground links, creating secure connections across borders and overseas through a space-based quantum key infrastructure.
LuxQuanta’ s QKD technology, recognised for its robustness, interoperability, cost-effective installation and successful field deployments, provides the physical layer for generating quantum keys securely over terrestrial infrastructures. Its Continuous Variable( CV-QKD) approach enables scalable, efficient integration into existing fibre networks, placing LuxQuanta at the forefront of Europe’ s quantum communication landscape.
Under this alliance, GMV’ s space systems expertise enables the design and operation of the space segment, from satellite payload integration to ground-to-orbit link management. GMV’ s Key Management Solution‘ QuKee’ ensures full lifecycle management of quantum keys across complex networks, supporting auditing, redundancy, interoperability and integration with post-quantum cryptographic infrastructures.
LuxQuanta’ s QKD technology, built around its NOVA LQ platform, provides the quantum layer for secure key generation in the network. Its systems are interoperable, field-proven and cost-effective, integrating seamlessly into existing telecom fibre infrastructures.
They aim to deliver a Spanish-engineered, European-aligned quantum communication solution ready for industrial and governmental deployment, aligned with European initiatives such as the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure( EuroQCI), contributing Spanish technology and expertise to Europe’ s collective post-quantum resilience.
Jesús B. Serrano, CEO, GMV, said:“ Quantum-safe communication is not a far-future goal, it’ s a current need. Our experience in both cybersecurity and key management in complex space systems like Galileo uniquely positions us to help lead Spain and Europe into the post-quantum era.”
GMV brings extensive experience managing encryption and key management systems in space missions such as Galileo, ensuring the reliability and operational maturity of distributed key infrastructures. Its space heritage and record of cybersecurity innovation reinforce its role as a trusted European leader in secure communications.
Together, LuxQuanta’ s leadership in terrestrial quantum communications and GMV’ s expertise in cybersecurity and space systems converge to deliver a field-proven ecosystem for quantumsafe communications, bridging fibre and space segments to meet the demand for next-generation networks.
Vanesa Díaz, CEO, LuxQuanta:“ This alliance demonstrates how European technology can lead the way in quantum-secure communications. By joining forces with GMV, we bring together Spain’ s excellence in cybersecurity, space systems and quantum technologies to build the foundation for a more secure and sovereign digital future.”
With this alliance, Spain is said to strengthen its role as a technological driving force of quantum Europe – promoting the development of secure and sovereign infrastructures that will define the future of communications in the post-quantum era. p
