Enel and Sapienza University join forces for
‘Smart Solar House’
T
he Smart Solar House, a prototype house
of the future, developed by the Enel
Group in collaboration with a team of around
50 students and PhD students from Rome’s
Sapienza University, was presented in Dubai
for the ‘Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018’
international architecture competition.
software to provide cloud-based real-time
collection of energy data.
Using these devices, Sapienza’s scientific
team will be able to receive and analyse
consumption data and thus schedule
energy usage with a view to boost savings,
convenience and sustainability.
With this collaboration, the Enel Group
reaffirms its constant commitment to
developing technologies that improve
the energy efficiency of our homes, new
products and services, fostering smart grids
and smart cities, promoting electric mobility
and integrating renewable sources in the
energy system.
This smart and sustainable house design,
powered only by solar energy, uses the
most advanced technological systems,
including the Internet of Things (IoT),
home automation and Enel’s infrastructure
for charging electric vehicles, and is made
entirely of wood and other materials with
low environmental impact.
In particular, thanks to the teamwork
between Enel and the Sapienza University,
two second-generation smart meters have
been installed to manage and monitor
energy flows: a sophisticated remote
management system that uses leading-edge

TIM and Huawei to provide advanced network
services to Italian companies
T
IM and Huawei have started a partnership
to offer Italian companies innovative
services based on Software-Defined Wide
Area Network (SD-WAN) technology, able to
increase the reliability, flexibility and efficiency
of corporate networks.
The agreement is part of the strategy
aiming to evolve the offer of TIM network
solutions for business customers, integrating
them with TIM’s cloud infrastructures. In
particular, the new TIM service model will
allow companies to manage their networks
through a single console, using the support
and expertise of the National Assistance
Center of TIM. In this context, Huawei’s
SD-WAN technology will be the first to be
integrated into the console among the
solutions that will be made available by TIM.

networks among multiple sites or data
centres, adding flexibility to the high levels of
performance and security provided by MPLS
(Multi-label Protocol Switching) networks.
Leveraging their respective skills and
technologies, the two companies will
also collaborate in the development of a
programme designed to offer advanced
solutions and innovative business services.
“Today, more than ever, companies need
networks that can adapt to different
business needs over time, in particular to
enable cloud and VoIP services. Thanks to
the most advanced technologies available,
these networks can be managed both
jointly and by customers themselves
through simple tools,” said Luigi Zabatta,
Head of Fixed Offer – TIM’s Chief Business
and Top Clients Office.
