Orange Spain and Huawei jointly released
5G-oriented antenna solutions
O
range Spain and Huawei recently joined
forces to hold the 7th Global Antenna
Technology and Industry Forum in Madrid
and release a series of 5G-oriented ‘1+1’ full-
scenario antenna solutions. In the 5G era, one
passive antenna is required to incorporate
functions of all antennas on the live network,
release antenna space to deploy a Massive
MIMO antenna and satisfy future evolution
requirements through one-off deployment.
With the advent of the 5G era, the deployment
of new frequency bands and sharp increase
in capacity requirements pose the biggest
challenge to 5G antenna deployment since the
antenna space is quite limited. Huawei believes
that ‘1+1’ antenna solutions in the 5G era
involve the following three scenarios:
• ‘1+1 SBS’: Passive and Massive MIMO
antennas deployed on two poles (SBS
stands for side-by-side)
• ‘1+1 Stack’: Passive and Massive MIMO
antennas deployed on a single pole (in
stack mode)
• ‘1+1=1’: Integrated deployment on a
single pole
‘1+1 SBS’ is a typical scenario where two
antennas (passive and Massive MIMO) are
deployed on two horizontally parallel poles.
The passive antenna incorporates functions
of all antennas on the live network and
implements 4T4R on sub-3 GHz bands.
The Massive MIMO antenna
expertly helps to meet the
strict capacity requirements of
ultra-heavy traffic hotspots. In
the ‘1+1 Stack’ scenario, two
antennas are installed at the
upper and lower ends of the
same pole. The height of the
passive antenna (deployed at
the lower end) must be less
than two metres, which is a
conscious design decision to
reserve available space for the Massive
MIMO antenna. The ‘1+1=1’ scenario
requires a single antenna to support 4T4R
on sub-3 GHz bands as well as Massive
MIMO/8T8R deployment in the C-band.
This appropriate counter measure to the
largest extent helps resolve the often
challenging issue of insufficient space.
Now, Huawei has developed a full range of
diverse antenna solutions that support the
preceding three scenarios.

Toys ‘R’ Us Iberia partners with Openbravo to
deploy its POS solution
T will ensure central management for all stores and terminals, which will
dramatically reduce total IT and maintenance costs.
Openbravo has announced that it has been awarded a five-year
contract by Toys ‘R’ Us Iberia. The contract covers Openbravo POS
software deployment in the Openbravo Cloud and implementation
services in all 61 stores across Spain and Portugal. It also includes
integration with SAP solutions ERP and Hybris to deploy a new end-
to-end omnichannel solution. “Toys ‘R’ Us is an emblematic brand with which many of us share
an emotional bond. This is why we are very proud to collaborate
with the company to help the team achieve its business goals
in this new growth stage,” said Marco de Vries, CEO, Openbravo.
“For Openbravo, this important agreement confirms our strategic
success and further strengthens our market position as a reference
retail software vendor. This partnership will be instrumental in
further accelerating business growth in Spain and beyond.”
he strategic partnership will enable Toys ‘R’ Us Iberia to execute its
new business strategy after its recent acquisition by Green Swan,
with the transformation of the shopping experience in all physical
stores through the adoption of Openbravo’s POS solution in the cloud.
“We are pleased to have signed this contract with Openbravo,”
said Paulo Sousa Marquez, CEO, Toys ‘R’ Us Iberia. “We value
Openbravo’s modern technology, which will enable us to accelerate
the store transformations and the agility that comes from being web-
native and mobile-ready.”
Through the adoption of Openbravo POS, a key component of the
Openbravo Commerce Cloud solution, Toys ‘R’ Us stores will gain access
to a broad set of assisted sales capabilities that will enable greater
customer focus and a faster, more convenient checkout experience
while also supporting its omnichannel strategy. The cloud deployment
