Deutsche Telekom and Ericsson deploy private 5G campus network for automated Hamburg port operations

Deutsche Telekom has deployed a private 5G campus network at Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG’ s Container Terminal Altenwerder( CTA) in Hamburg, creating a foundation for automated, connected port operations.

Delivered with Ericsson, the network covers one square kilometre and provides secure, high-performance wireless connectivity for critical logistics processes, real-time applications and Digital Transformation initiatives.
The Port of Hamburg is Germany’ s largest seaport and Europe’ s third-largest container port, making reliable communications essential for efficient cargo handling. The new private network links vehicles, sensors, mobile devices and IT systems, enabling faster data exchange and supporting the terminal’ s highly automated operating environment.
Klaus Werner, Managing Director Business Customers, Telekom Deutschland, said the deployment demonstrated how advanced mobile communications could make complex logistics operations more efficient, transparent and flexible while helping accelerate digitalisation across port environments.
Michael Albers, HHLA IT Project Manager, said the infrastructure would allow HHLA and its partners to test, validate and introduce innovative applications in a live terminal environment before wider operational deployment, supporting connectivity and automation.
Built on Ericsson’ s Private 5G platform, the campus network was designed to maintain stable performance even during periods of heavy network demand. The scalable architecture also allows capacity and new applications to be introduced as operational requirements evolve.
The deployment forms part of the PROCON-5G project, funded through the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport’ s Digital Test Fields in Ports programme. The initiative supports digital infrastructure and innovation across Germany’ s seaports and inland ports, with TÜV Rheinland acting as project agency.

Marti and Tensor partner to launch autonomous ride-hailing vehicles across Türkiye

Marti Technologies has signed a multi-year partnership with Tensor to deploy autonomous vehicles across Türkiye, bringing self-driving ride-hailing services to millions of users through the Marti mobility platform.

The agreement will see Tensor supply Level 4 autonomous vehicles for use in cities where Marti already operates, including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir and Antalya. Marti currently provides ride-hailing services across 20 Turkish cities representing around 80 % of the country’ s GDP. Customers will be able to book Tensor autonomous vehicles directly through the Marti app following launch.
Tensor, founded in Silicon Valley in 2016, developed its Robocar platform for both private ownership and commercial fleet operations. The vehicle combines a vertically integrated computing and sensor architecture with proprietary sensor cleaning technology and over-the-air firmware updates designed to improve performance and expand operating capabilities.
The Robocar is powered by Tensor’ s proprietary supercomputer featuring eight NVIDIA Thor-X GPUs, supporting onboard AI processing and a safety-focused architecture with multiple redundant systems.
Dr Jay Xiao, CEO, Tensor, said the partnership marked another step in expanding autonomous mobility worldwide following recent agreements in the US, UAE and Europe.
Oguz Alper Oktem, Founder and CEO, Marti, said the company’ s nationwide operations, infrastructure and 7.8 million all-time unique platform users positioned it to support the safe rollout of autonomous ride-hailing services across Türkiye in the coming years, strengthening the country’ s Digital Transformation in urban mobility.
The collaboration aims to accelerate commercial autonomous transport adoption while improving convenience, operational efficiency and passenger accessibility across major urban centres.
