SAP chosen by HMRC to modernise the UK tax system with secure cloud technology

HMRC has selected SAP to transform its core tax and revenue systems.

The decision supports the modernisation of HMRC’ s Enterprise Tax Management Platform and represents a major investment in protecting and enhancing future services for customers.
The Enterprise Tax Management Platform is the strategic technology backbone of HMRC’ s tax accounting and payment capability. It supports more than 45 tax regimes and is used daily by tens of thousands of staff to manage over £ 800 billion in tax revenue each year.
Through a move to the cloud using RISE with SAP, HMRC will replace legacy systems and simplify its overall technology landscape.
The collaboration will provide employees with improved access to analytical data and a modern user interface, increasing confidence in real time analysis and reporting while enabling a more responsive and transparent experience for taxpayers.
As part of the RISE with SAP programme, HMRC will deploy SAP S / 4HANA Cloud, SAP’ s UK Sovereign Cloud, SAP Business Technology Platform and SAP AI capabilities to support secure operations and future innovation.
SAP’ s UK sovereign cloud services offer localised cloud capabilities designed to meet strict requirements for data residency, security and compliance, creating a resilient foundation for critical public sector systems.
“ Large-scale public services must operate reliably at national scale while adapting to evolving demands,” said Leila Romane, Managing Director UKI at SAP.“ Modernising this platform on a UK sovereign cloud will strengthen the resilience, security and sustainability of vital national infrastructure.”

DataVita wins £ 44.9m Glasgow City Council contract to modernise core IT infrastructure

DataVita, a leading UK data centre and cloud solutions specialist, has secured a major contract with Glasgow City Council to deliver the city’ s core compute and storage services.

The initial agreement is valued at £ 44.9 million over five years and nine months and will modernise the Council’ s digital backbone that underpins essential public services across Glasgow.
The partnership includes options for extension across multiple periods. Should the contract run for its maximum permitted duration of more than ten years, the total projected value is estimated to reach between £ 80 million and £ 110 million.
Under the initial term, which began in October 2025, DataVita will provide a comprehensive suite of services from its Tier III certified Scottish data centres. These services will support more than 400 business critical applications used daily by Council teams. The scope includes resilient primary and disaster recovery environments, management of virtual and physical servers, scalable storage platforms and robust backup services with immutable copies to maximise data protection.
The contract will also support job creation in Scotland’ s technology sector.
As part of Glasgow’ s move to a multi-source IT delivery model, DataVita will integrate with the Council’ s Service Integration and Management function. This approach will ensure efficient collaboration, strong governance and consistent service delivery alongside other strategic partners while supporting the city’ s ambitions for secure, sustainable and energy efficient digital infrastructure citywide. •
