There was a very interesting blog post from Mark Zuckerberg talking about how Meta has shifted the way it employs people. He was looking at opensource projects Meta uses, seeing who was making the key contributions and then employing them wherever they are based.
We’ re seeing a lot of countries talking about sovereignty, particularly the EU, and about closing its borders to US tech and instead trying to build its own stack. The challenge is that you can’ t build a stack today that isn’ t on one of the big techs’ software without using open-source software. However, as soon as you start to use open source, you’ re back at that globally collaborative community, and it’ s not European software; it’ s global software.
