NEWS ISG awarded place on UK Government’s G-Cloud 10 framework Earlier this year, the CCS also awarded ISG a place on its Spend Analysis and Recovery Services (SARS) II framework, to provide telecommunications spend recovery services to the UK public sector. G-Cloud 10 incorporates some 25,000 cloud services categorised into three lots: cloud hosting, cloud software and cloud support. The award to ISG will enable UK public sector organisations to quickly and cost-effectively leverage the firm’s extensive expertise in the following areas: I nformation Services Group (ISG), a leading global technology research and advisory firm, has announced the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) has awarded ISG a place on the UK Government’s latest G-Cloud framework, G-Cloud 10. The award gives UK public sector organisations, including central government, local councils, NHS trusts and other bodies, access to ISG’s market-leading cloud advisory services, which can be procured through a centralised website. In 2017, ISG was awarded a place on the CCS G-Cloud 9 framework, the predecessor to G-Cloud 10, as well as a place on the CCS Digital Outcomes Specialist Supplier (DOS2) framework, to help UK public sector organisations design, build and deliver digital programmes. • • • • • • • Cloud research and advisory services Cloud network and software advisory services Robotic process automation Cloud sourcing Cloud managed services Cloud digital strategy and solutions Cloud data and analytics Phil Millward, ISG partner specialising in the UK public sector, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded a place on the G-Cloud 10 framework for cloud support. Our selection on this highly competitive framework is a testament to the experience ISG has in providing expert and reliable advice to its clients on integrating cloud-based technologies into their operations.” ///////////////// UK Government plans to make the country a leader in 5G A ccording to Pierre Bichon, Consulting Engineer EMEA at Juniper Networks, the UK Government intends to become a leader in 5G and has set aside money in recent budgets to do so. With 5G being driven by the classic triangle of capability; Enhanced Mobile Broadband (more of the same but faster), Massive IoT (a radio interface designed for millions of devices) and ultra low latency, there is a need to analyse the wider challenges facing mobile carriers and industry vertical partners to enable 5G to deliver. The automotive sector is an obvious partner for 5G low latency applications and British car manufacturers need to work with the mobile community to ensure a number of factors are in place for successful 5G use. In this environment, it begs the question of how do we offer the automotive sector and emergency services a low latency, contiguous coverage and capacity solution across the UK? The answer is to look at how applications are deployed at the network edge using ETSI ISG MEC compliant software, securely and across 4G, 5G and satellite – adapting to the changes in latency and bandwidth. Satellite is the only real answer for providing service, albeit lower bandwidth and increased latency, while a vehicle crosses an www.intelligentcio.com international border. This can be addressed using SD-WAN but also requires a level of collaboration and standardisation which is currently missing in ETSI MEC, 5GAA and GSMA and also needs UK and European government support. It also requires Micro Edge Data Centres to be built at the edge of the network and more base stations to be deployed for road side coverage. These are all significant investments needed to realise the macro economic benefits of augmented or fully autonomous vehicles, something the UK Chancellor wants to see on UK roads by 2020.
