Dell enhances PowerProtect to streamline servers and bolster cyber defences

For faster recovery, the All-Flash Ready Node solution provides accelerated restore speeds with lower power consumption and a smaller data centre footprint.
Dell has also enhanced its PowerProtect Data Manager software with features like anomaly detection to swiftly identify potential security breaches to provide improved support for virtual machine backups on platforms like Microsoft Hyper-V and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation, alongside a more efficient process for long-term data archiving to Dell’ s ObjectScale platform.

Dell Technologies has upgraded its PowerProtect range to provide businesses with cost-effective data recovery and stronger defences against cyberattacks, and handle the increased compute power needed for AI adoption.

The updates will help organisations modernise their data centres for demanding workloads like AI, while also fortifying them against evolving cyber threats. Dell’ s approach centres on flexible resources, breaking down computing, storage, and networking for greater efficiency.
The updated PowerProtect DD6410 appliance offers quicker data restoration and reduces storage needs through data deduplication.
The upgrades aim to provide scalable, efficient, and resilient data protection for businesses of all sizes.
“ Modern applications require a new breed of infrastructure that will help customers keep pace with everchanging data centre demands,” said Arthur Lewis, President, Infrastructure Solutions Group, Dell Technologies.

Nokia and Fibrus strike five-year deal to boost broadband security and performance

Broadband provider Fibrus, which serves Northern Ireland and

Cumbria, has signed a five-year agreement with Nokia to deploy its Nokia Deepfield solution.
Following a successful trial, this partnership will enhance Fibrus’ ability to shield its network from cyberthreats, such as DDoS attacks, and effectively manage the increasing demand for high-quality broadband services.
“ The Deepfield solution from Nokia gives us the tools to understand our traffic better, protect against potential threats, and reduce operational costs. This partnership allows us to futureproof the digital infrastructure in the areas we serve, maintaining the highest level of service and security for our 100,000-strong customer base,” he said.
With over 100,000 customers connected to its network, and plans for further expansion, Fibrus will leverage Nokia Deepfield’ s network analytics capabilities. The partnership will provide insights into network traffic, allowing Fibrus to optimise resources and ensure reliable, high-performance broadband for its users.
Shane Haslem, COO at Fibrus, said the new solution enables them to understand traffic better, protect against threats, and reduce operational costs. The scalability of Nokia Deepfield will also enable Fibrus to manage future network growth and the deployment of advanced technologies cost-effectively. Nokia has been a key partner in Fibrus’ mission to deliver high-speed broadband to underserved rural areas.
