Digital Realty joins Innovative 24 / 7 hourly energy matching programs in Sweden and France
Digital Realty , a leading global provider of cloud-and-carrierneutral data centre , colocation and interconnection solutions , has announced its participation in 24 / 7 hourly energy matching programmes in both Sweden and France to balance renewable energy consumption and production , marking a significant step forward in the company ’ s commitment to sustainability and transparency .
In Sweden , Digital Realty has joined a programme led by Vattenfall , becoming the first global colocation data centre operator to commit to this initiative . The program introduces an innovative solution that provides 24 / 7 hourly matching of renewable energy consumption and production , ensuring that the energy used by Digital Realty ’ s six data centres across Stockholm is matched with renewable energy production on an hourly basis .
By aligning energy usage with renewable production , this initiative highlights the importance of data centre demand as a driver of the broader renewable energy transition . Energy generated by renewable sources is measured hourly , and Digital Realty ’ s data centre consumption is measured by smart meters to facilitate hourly matching of clean energy . The program also gives Digital Realty greater control by choosing the specific renewable energy sources it wants to use and having it matched by Vattenfall on an hourly basis .
