2 eir , one of Ireland ’ s leading telecommunications companies , and Nokia have announced the extension of its IP collaboration to support the evolving needs and expectations of its customers with access to world-class technology and connectivity solutions .
Sparkle , the first international service provider in Italy , has announced the successful completion of a Network-as-a- Service Proof of Concept ( PoC ) on a quantum-safe Internet use case .
The agreement will see eir introduce the latest 400 / 800GE IP backbone for larger capacity to meet future traffic growth and Nokia ’ s 7750 Service Router , powered by Nokia ’ s in-house routing silicon , FP5 , for greater flexibility , power efficiency and security . This move will support eir ’ s commitment to provide the most reliable and unparalleled connectivity and service to every corner of Ireland .

Realised in collaboration with leading companies Arqit Quantum , Intel , Adtran and Telsy , a TIM Group company specialising in cybersecurity , the trial was carried out on Sparkle ’ s metropolitan fibre optic network in Athens and demonstrated the agile and fully automated implementation of an on-demand MEF Internet Access Service secured by postquantum cryptography .
This PoC follows an earlier successful trial carried out on an International VPN between Italy and Germany . By integrating connectivity functions with Arqit quantum-safe encryption into an Intel-powered NetSec accelerator card used as Universal Customer Premises Equipment ( uCPE ), Sparkle tested the instantiation of a NaaS solution composed by on-demand networking and security capabilities , leveraging Adtran ’ s Ensemble cloud-based orchestration and automation software solution .

GERMANY
Siemens Smart Infrastructure and publicly owned energy supplier , Stadtwerke Stuttgart GmbH , have announced a partnership to help drive the transition to sustainable urban energy across the city .
Applications from the open digital business platform , Siemens Xcelerator , are used to control the intelligent energy management system across the facility ’ s office complex , warehouse and workshop . It optimally connects the supply of , and demand for , renewable energy for everything from heating and lighting to elevators and office equipment , in addition to electrifying the mobility hub , which will be used to charge electric vehicles from across the Stadtwerke Stuttgart fleet .

PORTUGAL
Start Campus , a company focused on designing , building and operating a new generation of sustainable data centres , has announced the award of additional power by REN , the Portuguese transmission system operator . This expanded power allocation brings the total IT capacity secured for SINES DC to 1.2GW , an increase on the initial 495MW , making it the largest colocation site in Europe with fully secured grid power .
SINES DC , which has land secured for the full campus , uses seawater cooling to minimise its environmental impact and improve efficiency . This unique offering positions Start Campus at the forefront of the data centre market evolution to deliver large-scale , AI-ready and sustainable data centre solutions .
This power allocation follows the commitment by REN to make significant investments to extend and develop the transmission network in the high-demand area of Sines .
