The new year symbolises a fresh start . While the passage of time is never really broken into neat chapters , it gives people a reason to examine lessons from the year gone by .

Businesses are no different . For retailers it ’ s imperative that they take stock of a difficult 2023 and consider ways to learn from the sector ’ s challenges .
With economic pressures likely to persist , technology and attitudes towards it will be pivotal in mitigating these continued challenges . Here are three resolutions all retail CIOs should be making in 2024 :
1 . Don ’ t invest in new tech just for the sake of it
Constant changes to consumer preferences and the retail industry ’ s drive to modernise operations has seen many invest heavily in technology . Going forward , however , there needs to be a greater emphasis on delivering a return on those investments and a major part of that is prioritising the processes that need to transform most urgently .
