Majority of UK business executives see the Metaverse as an opportunity to ‘ move the needle ’ on DE & I that they ’ re to be predominantly peoplebased and focused on areas such as customer service .

The Metaverse is predicted to have the potential to help UK executives ‘ move the needle ’ on DE & I initiatives , according to research released by EY .
As adoption increases and business use cases solidify , bedding in DE & I best practices early on will help UK businesses seize this opportunity .
According to EY ’ s 2023 Metaverse Readiness Survey , adoption of the technology is growing . Nearly half ( 47 %) of business leaders are already investing in or using the technology in some way , with 61 % believing they cannot afford to be absent from it .
When asked how they intend to apply it in a business setting , responses revealed
However , the survey has prompted concern that DE & I initiatives are not currently a priority for business leaders as they build their capabilities , with 39 % saying there is a risk that business interests will trump user rights such as accessibility , diversity and inclusion .
There is optimism around the benefits that Metaverse technologies could have in furthering DE & I initiatives , if managed carefully . As a result , nearly two-thirds ( 65 %) of the surveyed executives say their companies recognise the DE & I implications .
UK Prime Minister calls for nation to act as global leader in AI regulations amidst rising fears
Prime Minister , Rishi Sunak , has urged the UK to become a global leader in developing international regulations and guidelines around Artificial Intelligence .
Following the UK ’ s whitepaper issued in early 2023 which highlighted the benefits of AI , the Prime Minister is rapidly changing his position as he becomes wary of the dangers and threats this piece of emerging technology could potentially cause .
AI experts who highlight the importance of improving regulations .
“ Artificial Intelligence has the potential to be an extremely useful business tool so it is great to see the government prioritising the creation of clear guidelines ,” said Sridhar Iyengar , Managing Director for Zoho Europe .
“ A global approach is needed from experts and leaders in government and industry to ensure safe and ethical use of AI technology for all , especially as technology developments are so fast moving in this space . Public trust must be gained for AI to be embraced and education around its benefits can help .”
Sunak travelled to Washington DC on June 7 – 8 to have meetings with the US President , members of Congress and business leaders , where he discussed the issue of AI regulation and called for the UK to play a leading role in creating global guidelines .
