THE CIO: NEW
AND IMPROVED
How CIOs can
improve their role
and stay relevant
The HOLY GRAIL OF SOLUTIONS
Scale Computing has partnered with the Roman Catholic Diocese
of Westminster to upgrade its IT infrastructure. The vendor has
supplied the end-user with its hyperconverged cluster solution for
scalable flexibility and improved quality of its services.
IN-DEPTH ANALYSIS | LATEST INTELLIGENCE | REGIONAL IMPLEMENTATIONS
EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the fourth edition
of Intelligent CIO Europe. This
month’s cover story comes
from one of our case studies that looks
at the partnership between the Roman
Catholic Diocese of Westminster and Scale
Computing. The diocese implemented Scale
Computing’s HC3 hyperconverged cluster
solution to support day-to-day operations
and deliver scalable services.
The deployment of the solution has ensured
business continuity for the diocese, as well
as high performance and scalability. The
diocese is satisfied with the solution as it can
now prepare for the future more readily by
upgrading the IT environment and providing
the enhanced services required.
2019. The solution is also scalable and took
just 10 days to implement. The customer is
extremely happy with the Red Hat solution
due to its ability to innovate and allow it to
have improved flexibility.
This month’s ‘Editor’s Question’ is focused
on how security solutions are becoming
more utilised for the protection of online
data. We were interested in finding out
how enterprises are attempting to protect
themselves from the relentless number of
cyberattacks. We heard from Scott Gordon,
Chief Marketing Officer at Pulse Secure,
Morey J Haber, Chief Technology Officer
at BeyondTrust and Adam Philpott, EMEA
President at McAfee who provide their
opinions on how companies should be
handling their data.
Another of our case studies is focused
on the implementation of Tintri’s cloud
solution for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
The airport selected Red Hat OpenShift
Container Platform due to its compatibility
and integration with Docker and Google
Kubernetes and the customer felt that
the solution was beneficial for moving its
systems to the cloud. Fraud prevention is a hot topic in the IT
industry as businesses continuously attempt
to prevent cyberattacks such as email fraud.
In our ‘Trending’ section, we consider the
ways in which organisations are being warned
about email fraud and how they should
implement specific prevention solutions to
eliminate further attacks of this type.
The solution is quick and efficient and
therefore provides the airport with a chance
to become the leading digital airport by Similarly, as part of our ‘Trending’ section,
we also take a look at how professionals
are seemingly unprepared for digital

transformation. According to a survey,
a large proportion of employers are
oblivious to how digital transformation will
impact their organisations and Skillsoft is
offering a chance for employers to gain an
understanding of this with the introduction of
its new digital transformation course series.
Our ‘Country Focus’ for this month is Spain
and we explore how service provider Acens
utilises a Commvault solution to protect its
customers’ online data, something which
enterprises are honing in on, especially with
the looming GDPR regulations.
To round off this issue, we ‘Get To Know’
Alastair Pooley, CIO at Snow Software, who
lets us in on how he likes to relax and unwind
outside the office.
