NEWS Swiss U-space deploys national flight information management system for drones S kyguide, the Swiss air navigation service provider, and AirMap, a leading global airspace intelligence platform for drones, in partnership with the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA), have announced that they have deployed the Swiss U-space flight information management system (FIMS) for drones. The FIMS is an aviation data exchange hub that connects skyguide’s air traffic management system to UAS Service Providers (USPs) with open interfaces to support safe and compliant drone operations in low-altitude airspace. The FIMS deployment represents a critical milestone in the development of the Swiss U-space Implementation (SUSI) program, Switzerland’s drone traffic management network infrastructure. U-space complements traditional air traffic management (ATM) systems by facilitating information exchange and interactions between airspace authorities and drone operators. The FIMS is a cloud-based, interoperable platform that distributes airspace information, directives and real-time traffic from skyguide’s ATM system to drone operators through a network of USPs. Participating USPs connect to the FIMS using open interfaces to provide services that support drone operators in meeting regulatory and operational requirements. The FIMS is designed to connect with multiple USPs to support an open, competitive drone economy with a marketplace of drone services. “Switzerland’s FIMS enables multiple USPs to connect to safety- critical airspace information using open and interoperable interfaces to deliver nationwide U-space services to UAS operators,” said Ben Marcus, AirMap Co-founder and Chairman. “With this new milestone, Switzerland continues to lead the world in rolling out innovative UTM services that foster an open drone economy.” ////////////////// Ericsson and Vodafone bring 5G hologram to Vodafone Paredes de Coura festival E ricsson, an industry leader in providing connectivity services, has enabled Vodafone Portugal to use its cutting-edge 5G technology to make a 5G hologram call to TVI Studios in Lisbon. This exciting demonstration allowed a reporter to appear at the Vodafone Paredes de Coura festival in hologram form on national news. The HD hologram was able to interact with the CTO of Vodafone, João Nascimento, in 3D with minimal transmission latency. This means that there was minimal delay in the interaction, despite the huge amount of data being transmitted – a key benefit of 5G. To make this happen at one of Portugal’s largest festivals, Musion provided a HD Audio/Video Image Capture of the reporter from TVI studios in Lisbon, which was then transmitted through the Vodafone Portugal 5G network to Paredes de Coura. Ericsson supplied the 5G end-to-end solution, including an Enterprise Core vEPC in a BOX and 2 5G NR AIR 6488 radios, an Ericsson Router 6000 and 4G Radios for non-standalone NR anchor band. This holographic call was particularly exciting to festival goers in Portugal as they got to experience what 5G from Vodafone Portugal and Ericsson will look like as it develops in the country. 16 INTELLIGENTCIO www.intelligentcio.com
