W
irecard, global innovation leader in
digital financial technology, together
with the EHI Retail Institute and other
partners including Google, Mastercard,
Payback, GS1 Germany and Visa, has
founded the EHI Mobile Payment Initiative.
As a result of this initiative, the retail industry
will be able to satisfy the growing demand
from consumers for mobile payment
solutions. The exchange of expertise among
the partners also plays a significant role in
the EHI Mobile Payment Initiative.
According to a representative survey by EHI,
around 20 million German consumers are
open to the concept of mobile payment.
They particularly appreciate the speed and
great simplicity of the payment process.
By contrast, consumers who are yet to be
convinced by the solution are in many cases
ill-informed or are not yet fully aware of the
advantages of mobile payment.
Georg von Waldenfels, Executive Vice
President Consumer Solutions at Wirecard,
commented: “The market is mature for
technology and both consumers and the
retail industry are now demanding solutions
which make the purchase process quicker
and simpler without having to make
significant changes when paying. This
was exactly our vision when we launched
our mobile payment app, boon, in 2015.
Together with the other founding members,
we are delighted to be able to educate both
consumers and retailers alike about mobile
payment solutions that are available on the
market today.”
With boon, Wirecard is a pioneer in mobile
payment in Germany. boon was the
industry’s first fully digitised mobile payment
solution and can be used independently
from banks and telecommunications
providers. boon is available in 10 European
countries and depending on the country,
supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, Fitbit Pay
and/or Garmin Pay.

O
ne Identity is working with European
drugstore chain, dm-drogerie
mrkt, to help it get Identity and Access
Management (IAM) right. With One
Identity Manager, dm-drogerie mrkt
ensures that individual employees
can access the applications they need
to deliver excellent customer service
and protect data by controlling and
monitoring access. As a result, the
company has boosted overall efficiency,
security and service levels, as well as
reduce costs by avoiding thousands of
hours in lost productivity each week.
The drugstore chain has 1,900 stores
in Germany, its country of origin and
1,600 additional stores in 12 other
countries. For years, dm-drogerie used
technologies to manage staff profiles
and access privileges. In keeping with the
organisation’s flat hierarchical model,
employees used shared accounts to
access applications.
However, dm-drogerie had no way to track
which employees made system changes,
making it difficult for the organisation to
meet increasing security requirements
around identity governance.
“To address this problem, every store
employee needed their own individual
account,” explained Steffen Dumjahn,
Software Developer at dm-drogerie
markt. “And to do this, we needed
more automation when it came to
IAM. Otherwise, IT employees would
need to provision access manually or
semi-manually.”
After evaluating IAM solution options,
dm-drogerie chose One Identity
Manager. For Dumjahn, the fact that
the One Identity Manger interface
addressed a lot of processes that most
companies need, including the use of
standard workflow templates that can
be customised for individual processes
was key.
Today, all staff use their own credentials
to access IT tools. As a result, dm-
drogerie has improved data security.
Not only does it have greater control
over who accesses applications but also,
the organisation can instantly see who
granted and removed access privileges,
when they did so and why. The company
has also minimised expenses by
increasing staff productivity.
