NKT has delivered the high-voltage cable system wind farm in Belgium New addition to law firm’s cybersecurity practice in Brussels Rosa Barcelo, Deputy Co-chair of the Data Privacy and Cybersecurity (DPC) Practice Group N KT has successfully commissioned the turnkey order for the 220 kV AC high- voltage cable system connecting the 309 MW Rentel wind farm to the Belgian shore. The high-voltage cable system from NKT is now ready to transmit renewable energy from the Rentel offshore wind farm to the Belgian power grid. When in operation, the offshore wind farm will provide green energy to 300,000 households, supporting the national target of 13% of the power consumption to be covered by renewable energy by 2020. For NKT, the turnkey project has been successfully executed after great collaboration with Rentel NV. “We are happy to support the transition to renewable energy in Belgium by leveraging our extensive experience and expertise in turnkey solutions for offshore wind. When having the total responsibility and by working closely with our customer and suppliers, we can ensure higher efficiency and lower risks in the project interfaces. S NKT has designed, manufactured and installed the 40 km extruded three-core 220 kV XLPE HVAC (alternating current) submarine cable system according to the project plan. The installation was finalised in 2018 after a successful offshore operation completed by the advanced cable-laying vessel, NKT Victoria. “We have invested heavily in building a leading practice in this area and Rosa’s addition is another significant step for us,” said Brian Hartnett, Office Managing Partner of the Squire Patton Boggs Brussels office.
