VEVA, a global leader in engineering
and industrial software, has announced
Italpresse Gauss has embedded the
company’s Augmented and Virtual Reality
software in its high-performance light metal
casting solutions with the development of a
new tool branded as AMe.
As a real-world application of digital twin
technology, this solution will be used by
Italpresse Gauss customers to perform
maintenance activities with greater
effectiveness. This marks a first-of-its-
kind mobile offering that relies upon the
Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Virtual
Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)
to deliver this Maintenance-as-a-Service
(MaaS) offering.
E and capacity expansions to guarantee full
interoperability with the new network.
The transformation enables Wind Tre to
work in a more agile way when providing
services to customers using both fixed and
mobile access and to improve operations.
Wind Tre customers will benefit from
Ericsson’s market leading core network
applications and Network Functions
Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVi) solution,
enabling fast introduction of new services
and providing full service continuity. Benoit Hanssen, Chief Technology
Officer Wind Tre, said: “This is another
big step in the journey that Wind Tre
is making to provide the best quality
network and high value services to our
customers. We are transforming to be
ready for the digital revolution that 5G
and IoT will bring. We are pleased to
partner with Ericsson on this important
deal which secures a deep knowledge of
the existing technology and will provide
a state-of-the-art virtualised network.”
The contract includes the delivery of
a self-contained project to deploy
a virtualised core network and
orchestration capabilities according
to European Telecommunications
Standards Institute (ETSI) open source
NFV Management and Orchestration
(MANO). On the existing physical
network, Ericsson is providing upgrades Arun Bansal, Senior Vice President, Head
of Market Area Europe and Latin America,
Ericsson, said: “We will provide state-of-
the-art virtual core network applications,
NFV infrastructure, orchestration and
end-to-end professional services enabling
Wind Tre to provide great experiences
to its customers and opening up IoT
opportunities as we move towards 5G.”

“In an increasingly competitive global
marketplace, it is critical to separate
ourselves from the competition by providing
new value for our customers,” said Carlo
Scalmana, President of Italpresse Gauss.
“As an outcome of our digital transformation
strategy, AVEVA enabled us to apply
new technologies to existing processes
for improved efficiency and customer
satisfaction. Based on the strength of the
AVEVA software platform, AMe allows
maintenance technicians to address service
requests faster, reduce downtime and
increase machine productivity.”
With this service, operators can point
a camera-enabled tablet to a machine
part and extract augmented data
and maintenance documentation to
diagnose and repair faulty components or
processes. The unique pairing of virtual,
augmented and mixed reality enables
device interoperability. For example, a
tablet can be used for initial diagnostics;
a virtual reality headset can then be used
by a remote engineer to help guide the
local service team. What results is a greatly
simplified diagnostic and remedial process;
an industry first.
