VIAVI launches NITRO
Mobile, delivering
intelligence and optimisation
/////////////////////////////

IAVI Solutions has announced the
introduction of NITRO Mobile, a
family of solutions delivering network
intelligence, assurance and optimisation
to service providers. As mobile operators
confront traffic and bandwidth demand
growth, increasing competition and the
advent of new technologies including 5G
and IoT, they require automated, virtualised
and scalable means to manage their
networks. NITRO Mobile answers the call
with a subscriber-centric approach, delivering
geolocated, app-aware insight for peak
performance. This launch further expands
the portfolio of solutions based on the VIAVI
NITRO real-time intelligence platform.
According to Cisco’s Visual Networking
Index, global mobile data traffic is estimated
to grow at a CAGR of 47% through to
2021. In that time frame, traditional mobile
communications will increasingly contend
for network resources with IoT devices, with
both types of connections requiring different
network characteristics. In response, mobile
service providers must build ultra-dense,
massively scalable, automated networks that
can deliver intelligent, low-latency, high-
bandwidth services. These large, complex
networks are difficult to test and challenging
to monitor.
Taking a subscriber-centric approach, NITRO
Mobile captures, locates and analyses all
mobile events across the RAN and core and
correlates them by location and application,
providing operators with insight to optimise
the customer experience and drive new
revenue streams.
Automated intelligence enables context-
driven workflows for faster troubleshooting,
identifying parameters and related KPIs
to quickly and efficiently uncover the root
cause of service-specific issues. The NITRO

INTELLIGENTCIO
Mobile family of solutions comprises NITRO
Mobile Intelligence, NITRO Mobile Assurance
and NITRO Mobile Optimization. Specific
applications of NITRO Mobile include:
• Assuring subscriber quality of experience
(QoE) on individual services requiring
distinct resources or parameters from
the network.
• Providing deep insight into devices,
locations, services and usage of IoT
connections to minimise impact on the
overall customer base.
• Optimising C-RAN by correlating data
from the RAN, core, front-/backhaul and
the air interface to deliver intelligence
throughout the network life cycle.
• Developing new revenue streams through
monetisation of the rich analytics set
made available to marketers.
“Today’s service providers need more than
just network monitoring. Learning, intelligence
and automation are crucial to enabling
service assurance as networks evolve to 5G,”
said Patrick Kelly, Principal Analyst, Appledore
Research Group. “With the growing use of
narrowband IoT, AI and machine learning
over the next few years, comprehensive
analytics and insight will allow service
providers to manage increasingly complex
network and service ecosystems, from
deployment through delivery of services.”
“NITRO Mobile leverages the scale and
virtualisation of VIAVI probes, agents and
instruments to optimise mobile networks
and services with greater automation,
real-time analytics and next-generation
assurance,” said Steve Urvik, Vice President
and General Manager, Visibility, Intelligence
and Analytics, VIAVI Solutions. “Increasing
automation of workflows and service life
cycles, combined with real-time data, delivers
the vital tools that mobile operators need
to confidently evolve to future networks and
address the challenges of virtualised and
hybrid network environments.” n
